((Yarn Along)) and Giveaway Winner!

It's Wednesday, Yarn Along Day and we are SNOWED IN big time. Another school cancellation and more snow to come this weekend!! A great day to try to finish up some projects around the house if I can keep the girls busy enough.
The never-ending baby sweater is coming along and really all I have to do now is block it and add the buttons. It took me so much longer than I expected (most of my projects do) as I just have very little time to sit and crochet so I sneak it in when I can.

As far as reading goes, I'm still not doing much heavy reading. I am, however, skimming through a lot of my favorite gardening books and looking ahead to Spring. Speaking of which, we just LOVE my friend Sharon Lovejoy's book Roots Shoots Buckets & Boots. Have you read it? I was lucky enough to do a wonderful interview with Sharon if you'd like to read it in 2010. She is such an inspiration to me. The girls and I took out our seeds to see what we have remaining from last year as we try to plan our garden. We will start many of our seeds inside this week too.

We have a bunch of fun things going on at Little Acorn Learning this week.  First off, let me announce our Waldorf Homeschool Handbook Giveaway Winner.......

And the winner is.....

((Yarn Along))

Well sort of.  The idea behind Yarn Along is to post a photo or photos of what you are knitting/crocheting and reading.  Unfortunately, although I have so many beautiful books I could have thrown in this photo, I have to be honest that I've found very little time to read at all and rarely do.

In either case, I have been busy with yarn so I guess that counts for something :)
On Monday, Brian and I went into NYC to the Natural Museum of History and then the Billy Joel concert.

Both were amazing and the train ride back and forth gave me a good three hours of time to work on Maia's Roselette Top.
I already made one for Brianna and I promised Maia one as well so I'm happy it is coming along.

In addition to Maia's top, I'm almost done putting the finishing touches on this sweet Baby Hooded Sweater for my neighbor's baby.  It's taken me longer than expected (as it always does) and the baby is a few months old already but at least it is still FREEZING enough in Connecticut for her to get some use out of it, I hope!

What will I work on next?  I have one sock done that's been sitting in my knitting bag for over a year.  Maybe it's time to think about the other one?

What are you working on?

Yarn Along

Yarning along, I've begun yet a new crochet project the Roselette Top.  I was searching for something that I could work on for the summer months and fell in love with this sweet pattern when I came across it on Raverly.  It seems easy enough and will allow me to use up a bunch of Vintage Berroco yarn that I have in various colors.  It was also only one of the few crochet patterns I came across that had sizes 8+ for my growing daughters (I sure miss those baby pattern days).

I'm reading the book One Amazing Thing by Chitra Divakaruni.  I've only just begun so have not much yet to say about it but the description grabbed me.  An earthquake traps nine people together who come from very different backgrounds.  Trying to survive, they get their minds off of their condition by each sharing one amazing thing from their lives that they had never told anyone before.

I thought about what I would share if that was me.  I've had many amazing things happen to me but none that stand out right now as especially story-worthy that I can think of that nobody knows about.  If it wasn't for that last stipulation I suppose I would talk about something I survived through during my troubled teenage years.

I look forward to reading the rest and trying to finish this sweet top before the warm weather hits Connecticut.

Yarn Along

So here I am again with a little yarn along update.  It may look as if I've been busy but if you know the truth of it, these little toy horses have been in the making since before Christmas.  I just have so many projects and so little time.  Don't we all?  I picked it back up again for a few stitches yesterday and I hope to finally finish three little toy horses for my girls (hopefully before NEXT Christmas~!!)
On the reading front, again, I haven't had time for anything too heavy so I am enjoying browsing back through this wonderful little pattern book Toymaking with Children.  Its one of those books that I imagine will live on my shelves forever.  I can see this sweet book touching the lives of my own children, other children I care for, grandchildren and maybe one day getting passed on to a time I will not see.  It's a keeper.

Yarn Along

I decided to jump on the Yarn Along bandwagon with the rest of my sweet blog sisters.  A great way to share what is on the needles or hook and also see what others are reading.  Our dog Caicos wanted to be the one to show you the photo ;)

As you know, I'm wrapping up the Cardiff Cowl I spoke about in this post.  I'm in love with the yarn and the pattern is easy enough to go quickly and changes enough to keep my interest.  It should be done in a day or two when I can find the time to sit and finish it up.  I hope to make a matching hat for it if I have enough yarn left over.

Because I write so much, it is very hard for me to carve out a lot of heavy reading time.  Right now I am at the beginning stages of a big project so I am keep my reading light and inspiring.  My friend Sara sent me The Waldorf Book of Poetry as a gift last month and it is exactly what I need to get me in the mood to write seasonal children's crafts and activities.  An amazing addition to my library and I'm thankful to have it.

The temps are dropping like crazy in Connecticut.  Today is was 7 degrees.  SEVEN!  So if I can crochet a little faster maybe my neck will at least be warm soon :)

xoxo
